As we soften into the quickening pulse of spring, the earth reminds us of a forgotten truth: nothing in nature exists in isolation. In partnership with horses, I witness this daily. It is a space where duality dissolves, and we flow into an awareness of our shared connection—the innate oneness we are.
Recently, a couple arrived at the arena. They walked together, hands dangling. In the gap between them lingered a touch of winter. Alex, a seasoned horseman, carried the confidence of experience. Aurora vibrated with a hidden strength, her power held in reserve, not yet claimed. They moved as solitary egos separated by their strengths and defaults; two sailors forgetting they are a single ship navigating the same sea.
The Sacred Pause
We sat at a table, centering on a shared intention. As Alex spoke of his deceased grandfather, a weathered lead rope on the hitching post fell into a bucket with a sudden clack. The first messenger had arrived. A golden-hour stillness settled over us, carrying invisible whispers with the clarity of sunlight.
In the arena, Alex and Aurora faced a statuesque, dark Thoroughbred named Caspian, basking in amber-soaked dust. Alex initially tried to “make” things happen, leaning into his skills with a thirty-foot-long line. Caspian tossed his head and scampered away beneath the shaded canopy of oak trees. Alex reset with his breath, persisting until he felt the click—until he and Caspian merged. They moved like geese toward a single destination, navigating each obstacle with rhythm and grace.
Aurora waited, holding a long line she had no interest in using. Alex and Caspian walked toward the altar of her being. Alex stopped; his part for the moment was complete. Caspian continued flowing forth, syncing in alignment with Aurora. He joined her side, and they walked together, weaving through every cone in a timeless dance until they reunited in the center of the circle where Alex waited beside a mounting block. It felt like a renewal of vows.
The Dissolving of Duality
Alex and Aurora framed Caspian, hands gently rubbing his neck with affection and appreciation. Smiles blazed. Eyes sparkled. The “other” had disappeared. The three fused into a single pillar of love, sharing one breath, one heartbeat.
Two red-tailed hawks soared above, joining the dance. One bird dove toward the earth, a sharp hunt; the other hovered high, holding the wider vision. Unique strengths, one mission. Akin to a thriving school of fish, they moved as a single pulse. Alex, Aurora, Caspian, the hawks, and the breeze carrying the soul of a loved one fused into an interconnected harmony within the unified field.
Our Inherent Oneness
As the session closed, Aurora spoke of “flying.” I glanced at the feather tucked in Alex’s hatband. When we returned to the table, a single quill waited for her. She nestled it into her own hat, claiming her newfound wings. They left the ranch, feathers high, holding hands. They remind us that we don’t re-enter the flow; we wake up to the awareness that we never left. We are the source.
This offering carries the world toward a future where we remain awake to our inherent oneness. In partnership with horses, the awareness of our shared connection deepens. We each hold a vital piece of the vision. As we release our unique gifts—open and honest in our intentions—we unify, and remarkable magic occurs.
This spring, I invite you into the season of celebrating inter-being as it blooms in every arena of this life.
We are here to awaken from our illusion of separateness. To be is to inter-be. You cannot just be by yourself alone. You have to inter-be with every other thing.
